Bingo Bango Bongo Team Golf Game: Rules for 2 vs 2

🗓️ Updated 8 October 2026 👥 4 players ⭐⭐⭐ Careful scoring ⏱️ Rules read in 2 minutes

Bingo Bango Bongo Team turns the classic game of skill into a match between 2 teams of 2 players. On every hole, 3 points are at stake — Bingo (first on the green), Bango (closest to the pin) and Bongo (first in the hole) — but the central rule changes everything: the point goes to the team as soon as at least one of its two players wins it. You don't need to be the best golfer in the group to bring your team a point, you just need to be first on that particular point. If both teams each have a winner on the Bango or the Bongo, nobody takes the point: 0 points, a tie. A tie on the Bingo, on the other hand, is shared: 0.5 points each. A hole in one adds a bonus of +3 points for the team of the player concerned. By default, the score on the hole itself does not count: only these feats pay, which makes the order of play strategic — having the shortest hitter play first can be enough to make sure of a point while their partner attacks the flag.

How to play Bingo Bango Bongo Team

  1. Form 2 teams of 2 players. Every hole puts 3 points at stake: Bingo, Bango, Bongo.
  2. Bingo: the first team on the green — or, as a variant, the longest drive that stays on the fairway. Tie between the 2 teams → 0.5 points each.
  3. Bango: the team closest to the pin once all the balls are on the green.
  4. Bongo: the first ball holed — or, as a variant, the longest putt holed.
  5. The point goes to the team as soon as at least one of its players wins it. If both teams have a winner on the Bango or the Bongo → 0 points. Hole in one (Ace 🎯) → +3 points for the team.
  6. “Fewest strokes” option (off by default, to switch on in configuration): +1 point for the team of the player with the fewest strokes on the hole — 0.5 point each if both teams match that lowest score. It is added to the position points; each player's strokes are then entered on every hole.
  7. The team with the most points at the end of the round wins.

Worked example

Hole 5: Camille & Hugo (team A) against Inès & Théo (team B). Bingo: Inès is first on the green → 1 pt to B. Bango: all the balls are on the green, Hugo is closest to the pin → 1 pt to A. Bongo: Inès holes her putt first → 1 pt to B. Hole result: team B 2 pts, team A 1 pt.

TeamPoints over 18 holes
🥇 Team B (Inès & Théo)29 pts
🥈 Team A (Camille & Hugo)24 pts

1 point was cancelled during the round, because both teams had a winner on the same point of the same hole.

Why we love it

Because, by default, the score on the hole does not count: only the feats pay. The shorter hitters often play first and pick up points without needing a good score, the order of play becomes a real team decision — and everyone is involved until the last putt, whatever their level.

Strategy tip

The Bingo and the Bongo are often won with the most cautious ball: have the shortest hitter play first, so they find the green or play their putt while the long hitters attack the flag. Coordinate with your partner — one point made safe on every hole is worth more than three chased at the same time.

Frequently asked questions

How is a point awarded to a team?

The point goes to the team as soon as at least one of its two players wins it: it does not have to be the best player, you just need to be first or closest on that particular point. If both teams have a winner on the Bango or the Bongo, the point goes to nobody: 0 points. A tie on the Bingo is shared: 0.5 points each.

What does a hole in one (Ace) earn in the team game?

A hole in one earns a bonus of 3 extra points for the team of the player who made it, on top of the Bingo, Bango and Bongo points normally at stake on that hole.

Can you choose how the Bingo or the Bongo is won?

Yes, both points are configurable. The Bingo can reward the first team on the green or the longest drive that stays on the fairway. The Bongo can reward the first ball holed or the longest putt holed. As an option, an extra point rewards the team of the player with the fewest strokes on the hole (0.5 point each if both teams tie).

Why have the shortest hitter play first?

Because the Bingo and the Bongo are often won with the most cautious ball: the short hitter can make sure of the green or a putt while the long hitters attack the flag. The order of play thus becomes a real strategic choice for the team.
